Outside the club, the velvet rope separates those who can enter the place and those who cannot. Age regulations, sexual codifications, dressing style or some covert principles of selection are used for the club to select the particular targets. On the other hand, the club visitors use fashion, costumes as a mask to create some new, unreal(or more real)self. The forms of behaviour are foreseeable from certain patterns of appearance, the "true" identity of the visitors is unknown, otherness can be explored.
Mansuo uses velvet ropes as the symbol of identity, questioning the external appearance and inner reality, the relation between actual and virtual, the fluid identity and belonging. This object should lead us to ponder who we are in today’s world.
